Taking A Day Off

This week I've been reminded more than ever why we should all take a day off every week.

The concept of a 6 day work week with the 7th being the day of rest is as old as time, yet most of us don't do that anymore. We're too busy, we have too much on the go to take a break. I'm the worst offender. Yet that's how our bodies were designed and we're much more productive, healthy and most importantly, happy when we do that.

A favorite highschool teacher of mine just lost his wife last week. She was a sweet gentle person who volunteered at church, worked full time at a high-school and also kept a part time job at a local grocery store. She was working extra hours to make it possible for the family to take a few vacations. Last week at 49 she dropped dead at work.

I don't know that working hard was what killed her, but I do think it's an important reminder to take a day of down time every week to slow down, enjoy life or just veg!

This week practice doing nothing for 1 day and see if you're really missing out or not.

You've got it right, misschickie! It can be hard to let go of striving to be 'all that' in a society where people who stop to smell the roses are considered slackers. I feel so bad for that family who lost their mom/wife.

That's a really thoughtful comment, misschickie. You are so right though. We'd all do a whole lot better if we would take that 1 day off a week and consider the real important things of life. We are certainly guilty of running around way too much and being...too busy... A sad commentary on today's society.
